Another great little 8x6 hardcover book has rolled off the press. These vintage prairie images were selected to show some of the changes in both the country and urban landscapes. The book is dedicated to the many friends and family who invited Fritz to their beautiful corner of the prairie and encouraged him to sketch or paint. Not that he ever needed much encouraging - his entire life story is told through his thousands of works, from childhood onward.

 On this 75th anniversary of artist Fritz Stehwien's successful escape from a post 2nd World War prison camp, the story is published in this book. High resolution images of sketches and drawings are included, as well as a map of places around Europe and Russia where these were created.

Two compilations of paintings and sketches in and around southern Germany are now complete. It's quite exciting to go from stacks of paintings and boxes of old sketches to seeing them in high resolution images, all in one. Having these wonderful motifs hidden in studio and basement didn't make much sense, and scanning them has now preserved even the damaged ones. The books are wonderful to look at for anyone, but bring back many memories for anyone who is familiar with the areas that Fritz Stehwien captured in his travels while living in southern Germany.

Large flatbed scanner has arrived

At long last, the solution to the image capture of large paintings and sketches has been resolved! We can now 'photograph' pretty much anything flat up to 36" x 50" inches with consistent lighting and colour in a wonderfully short time. There are many options on resolution and colour, as well as speed and digital capture in 2D or 3D. Amazing technology from Germany!

Newly printed!

The summer has been busy working with the unique artworks of Saskatoon visual artist and puppeteer Waltraude Stehwien. Her application of the ancient art of scissorcutting in both colour and black & white makes for many resplendent discoveries when looking through her archives and many new works.

Results of publishing are a series of black and white art cards and two delightful colour puzzles to make a unique little Christmas gift.

Mountain Series

Due to popular demand, Rocky Mountain motifs were published late in summer. Many do look similar, so the local zoo, featuring grazing moose made the set as well. Re-tracing the steps to find these old scenes could be a fun summer project - the Athabasca/Columbia Icefield has retreated quite far away from the highway since this watercolour was done, back in the 1970s.
